In the face of the increasing process of desertification, at the United Nations Conference on environment and development, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 1 to 12, 1992, with the participation of more than 100 heads of state or government, combating desertification was listed as the priority area for action by the international community. After the United Nations Conference on environment and development, the United Nations adopted a new resolution to conduct global negotiations on the Convention to combat desertification. It has held five meetings successively in Nairobi, Geneva, New York and Paris. 

2020世界防治荒漠化和干旱日的节日

面对日益加剧的荒漠化进程，1992年6月1日至12日在巴西首都里约热内卢召开的有100多个国家元首或政府首脑参加的联合国环境与发展大会上，将防治荒漠化列为国际社会优先采取行动的领域。联合国环发大会以后，联合国通过一项新的决议，就防治荒漠化公约进行全球谈判。先后在内罗毕、日内瓦、纽约、巴黎召开过5次会议。第4次会议于1994年6月6日至18日在法国巴黎召开，6月17日通过了《联合国关于在发生严重干旱和（或）荒漠化的国家特别是在非洲防治荒漠化公约》。1994年10月，112个国家的代表会聚巴黎，举行了公约签字仪式。同年12月，联合国大会通过49/115号决议，确定公约通过的日子—6月17日为“世界防治荒漠化和干旱日”。这个世界日意味着人类共同行动同荒漠化抗争从此揭开了新的篇章，为防治土地荒漠化，全世界正迈出共同步伐。

In October 1994, representatives of 112 countries gathered in Paris to hold the signing ceremony of the Convention. In December of the same year, the general assembly of the United Nations adopted resolution 49 / 115, determining the date of adoption of the Convention - June 17 as "world day to combat desertification and drought". This world day means that the common action of human beings and the fight against desertification have opened a new chapter. In order to prevent and control land desertification, the whole world is taking a common step.
